Brody’s Big Boy Room Design Inspiration

It’s getting to be that time around our house that we will start transitioning Brody’s nursery into baby Madelyn’s new nursery and making our guest room Brody’s big boy room.  I put together most of this design board awhile back because I knew that we would be getting these twin beds from my Mom’s house in New Orleans.  They are a basic black headboard with white and black linens similar to the one’s below.

I’m excited to put his room together, but definitely a bit nervous about actually transitioning him into a big boy bed.  He does so well in his crib, I really do hate to take him out of it.  We probably won’t start him in the big boy bed until sometime in August before babies September arrival.  I will take all of your tips and experiences on the best way to transition them too!!

So here is the board and honestly, it’s changed a little bit since I’ve put this together and I’m sure it will change even more once I actually get started.  We are not going to use the nightstand shown because my Mom just gave us the one that she used with these twin beds.  I will also not be using that dresser because I already have a piece of furniture in the room that I think will work just fine in his room.  The least amount of furniture I have to purchase the better!!

When my Mom was moving out of New Orleans, she showed me this piece of art that was up for grabs!!! Ya’ll it couldn’t be a more perfect fit for the theme of Brody’s big boy room.  Its a huge piece of art and I absolutely love that it shows the New Orleans street car and all the zoo animals.

And as all this was coming together, I realized how much it all ties back to Brody’s favorite damn book that we read every.single.night!!!  I’m not sure what it is about this book, but no matter how many books we have out; he always makes us read this one.  So it all couldn’t be more perfect!!

I’m excited to see it all come together this summer and share his new space with all of you!!!

Love the black beds and animal theme – so fun! I've already started veering significantly from my little inspiration board for the babies room but it's nice to have a place to start! Can't wait to see this come to life.

Having done the transition thing a zillion times. Wait until you have time to deal with the up and down and getting out of bed that sometimes happens when transitioning. Make it a big deal and we always started with naps first. Bed rails are great and putting the bed against a corner wall. And as far as the book reread a zillion times too, normal, normal, normal – as a preschool teacher, mom and grandmother, it bother us more, but to them it is essential in the pre-reading skills needed. I know, deep, but hey, you asked for tips.

Love the inspiration board! We attempted the move to big boy bed and then went back to crib. We still have a toddler bed in his room that's just collecting dust 😉 I'm starting to think he might be ready to move but then again I'm not sure I'm ready for it yet. Keep me posted on how it goes!
