I love to cook for my family, and have accumulated quite a collection of kitchen gadgets over the years. Some are used more than others! I wanted to take some time to share some of my standbys. I use these items very often, and love them for their unique designs and convenience! These will all ship in two days with Amazon Prime. Here are a few of my favorite things that make my life easier in the kitchen.

This garlic press is so easy to use and such an ingenious design!

I have seen this meat masher posted so many times, and let me tell you, the hype is real! Great for chopping and mashing ground beef or turkey on the stove. It makes this (sometimes unpleasant) job so much easier and quicker.

This Snap ‘n’ Strain strainer is such a handy design.  Probably my favorite and most used of all items! It is a plastic strainer that snaps right onto your pot, so that you can drain the pasta, or whatever needs draining, easily and quickly without dumping out the whole pot.

These herb scissors are so nice to have. They can chop or cut fresh herbs to any consistency. You will wonder how you got along without them – especially now that we are entering the seasons when fresh herbs are abundant!

These magnetic measuring spoons are so clever for easy storage!

I love the thickness and quality of these deeply grooved cutting boards to keep all the juice in.

This mandoline slicer is another item that I can no longer live without. I didn’t know I needed it until I had it. It saves so much time on recipes that require tons of chopping prep!

I have loved this olive oil sprayer as a light dressing for salads, and to prep dishes for roasting and baking. The mist delivers a perfect consistency.

This Breville citrus juicer is just a wonderful gadget to have.  Again, it seemed super extravagant about 6 years ago when we bought ours but we use it ALL the time for making our cocktails and its amazing. Fresh juice makes such a difference. This little machine makes the most delicious juice so effortlessly!

My rapid egg cooker is so nice to have when I am making a few eggs for egg salad, or want to make a few hard boiled eggs to keep on hand for protein-filled snacks. It’s so much easier to do this when I don’t have to boil water!

Thanksgiving and Christmas are quickly approaching, and I am so grateful to be hosting some out-of-town family and friends this year! As I prepare my spare bedroom and home for the holidays, I have been keeping my future guests in mind. I want to make sure that they feel right at home. Here are a few pointers that have been helpful in my past experience with hosting, and I hope they will help you as well!

This probably goes without saying, but this is a great opportunity to clean and organize your guest bedroom! Many of us (myself included!) are often guilty of using our guest rooms for temporary storage, especially over the past couple of years, when this space has not been used as often. Before crunch time begins, take some time to survey the room, get rid of clutter, clean, dust, and vacuum. Many people have trouble sleeping in beds away from home, and there is nothing better than walking into a guest bedroom with a beautifully made bed, great pillows and wonderful sheets. It makes all the difference!

I was recently gifted a set of sheets from Thomas Lee, and wanted to share my experience with you. After trying these sheets out for myself, I know that these won’t just go on the guest bed…I’ll be purchasing an additional set for myself! These sheets are unlike anything I have ever used previously. The comfort is amazing, and this company’s story is even more incredible (more below).

A comfortable guest bed is a top priority, but it’s just one piece of a successful and fun stay for my guests! When I am entertaining and preparing my guest room, I like to make sure that there are a few items readily available that will make them more relaxed in my home. • Make sure to have a phone charger with easily accessible plugs nearby – have a power strip available, if necessary.

• Include a suitcase stand or a similar hard surface to open luggage.
• Speaking of unpacking, I also like to clear out a drawer or shelf, so that guests can unpack and store their belongings. We want them to make themselves at home!
• Extra blankets are always good to have nearby for a nap, or for those who may get a little chilly at night.
• A sound machine is a great extra item to have on hand, for those who may need some white noise to fall asleep.
• Have a basket of extra toiletries, fresh towels, washcloths, and a hairdryer displayed in or near the guest bath.
• Make sure that all of these items are prominently displayed in the room, so that the guests know right away that they are taken care of!

Fun and Thoughtful Details

• An arrangement of fresh flowers is such a cheerful and thoughtful way to welcome guests! I like to include a handwritten note next to the flowers, welcoming them to our home.
• Stock the bedside table with a couple of bottled waters and snack options. I love to include a few gourmet chocolates for a little indulgence!

Depending on their familiarity with the area, the length of the trip, and their personality, try to anticipate their needs and plan accordingly. If they would be interested, plan a few local activities!

If you are planning many activities over a busy time, try to have as many meals taken care of as possible (aside from reservations at your favorite restaurants, of course!). Your guests are there to spend time with you, and you want to have fun right alongside them! It is so convenient to have a breakfast casserole ready to pop in the oven, muffins and fruit available for mid-morning or afternoon snacks, or even a made-ahead meal ready for dinner after a long day. With that being said, be sure to plan for plenty of rest and down time if needed, especially if your guests have traveled a significant distance. Chances are, your guests won’t mind an opportunity to take a quick power nap during a busy day…or will happily take some extra time to lie in bed in the morning! They are on vacation, after all!

I have loved showing several areas of our new home to all of you. I recently realized that I had overlooked one area that I have received many questions about…the bathrooms! It was important to me to create beautiful, peaceful, and comfortable spaces for all of us. I had a few different spaces to work with – a master bathroom for Matt and me, a bath for Brody, the girls’ Jack-and-Jill bathroom, and the guest bath. I knew that I wanted each of these to have a different, personal style. As I was narrowing my search for linens and accessories, it was an easy decision to use Weezie Towels. I had purchased products from them before and had been very happy with the quality. Weezie was kind enough to send me the bath mats I have featured below, and I love how each set and monogramming choice gave each room the distinct personality that I wanted.

Our Bathroom

These photos give a great look at the company’s newest product, the Weezie bath mat. It looks just gorgeous and elegant, but I really love the way it feels. It is just so plush – absorbent and quick drying – and so comfortable to step on after a bath or shower. It is such an everyday treat to have these new mats, along with matching towels, in our bathroom. Both Matt and I love the feel of the thick terry material.

The Guest Bathroom

I wanted this space to suit both feminine and masculine tastes, and to be very neutral, yet striking. I think we succeeded! The linens in this room, also from Weezie, are simply embossed in matching white, with the word “Guest.”

The Girls’ Jack-and-Jill Room

I absolutely love the way that the girls’ shared bathroom turned out. The pink “M” is perfect for Madelyn and Molly, and the font that we chose is both girly and age appropriate. The girls love to snuggle up in their towels after bath time! We went with smaller sizes for these bath mats, since they are sharing a double sink area. You can also see this size of mat next to the guest shower, above. There are so many options to suit every space.

Brody’s Bathroom

I was also thrilled with the selections for Brody’s bathroom. (I think you can tell by now…I love these products!) The navy trim and more masculine font of the monogrammed towels and bath mat pair well with the blue and gray tile, paint and accessories that we chose in this room. I think that this room will be perfect for him for many years to come…he won’t grow out of this style!

  Summer is quickly approaching and I know lots of you are looking for a good outdoor makeover or refresh! I have found that a lot of things are back ordered these days, so if you are hoping to have things by Summertime, I would say you definitely need to start now.

I have been dreaming about our outdoor space in this house for two years now and am so happy to see it all come together these last few months.  There are certainly still things we are missing and I am sure it will constantly evolve, but that is the fun in it.  Let me preface this by saying, outdoor furniture is sooo  expensive!!  I am going to share the items we have used so far, but please know, there are other great places to find outdoor furniture.  Target has been killing it lately, same with Walmart and places like Wayfair are also great!!  We live by the salt water, so I went with good quality products that I hope will last us a long time.  The salt air/water can just eat up outdoor stuff so badly.  So we have only been in our house since November, so I can only speak for our furniture for the last 6 months or so in this house.

We built this home with our outdoor space being a huge priority.  We always pictured wrap around porches all along the back and a nice covered porch in the front.  We have lived in our outdoor space and try to eat the majority of our dinners somewhere outside if at all possible!!

So here is a look at our spaces so far! I hope this is helpful!

As I have shared with you guys before, during our building process, I would make these design vision boards using Canva, to get a look at my ideas all in one place. I find this so helpful if you are looking to design certain areas of  your house!

Sofa and Chairs are by Kingsley Bate. It is the Sag Harbor Collection and our color is Oyster. 

This table was one of the the very first pieces of furniture that I knew I had to have for our outdoor space. I have just always loved it! It is extremely heavy which is very important for our outdoor space as we get high winds sometimes.  As much as I had fallen in love with some chairs from Serena & Lily to go with the table, I knew I needed chairs that were sturdy, easy to wipe down and heavy.  So we found these and have been extremely happy!!  I have linked our swivel chairs and sofa above.  I found these at a local furniture store and knew I wanted them.  The chairs are extremely comfortable and I love that they swivel and rock.  The sofa is great too, a little more stiff and not quite as comfy; but I’m still glad we purchased it.  This coffee table is great because again, it is very heavy!  Then our newest purchase is this little round table to go in the middle of the 4 swivel chairs and I am pretty obsessed.  It’s the perfect size and the top pops up and it is an ice cooler underneath!! Is that cool or what???

So for our poolside space, I used the same line for our lounge chairs that I did for our outdoor dining room chairs.  I love them and am honestly happier than I even thought I would be with the comfort of them. I worried they didn’t look too comfortable, but they really are cozy.  I didn’t want to have to mess with cushions that I had to bring inside all the time and I needed something heavy still!  So these have been great.  I love these umbrellas so much with the pretty fringe and the shade of blue is just my favorite! The umbrella tables are so nice and heavy duty too!  These white chairs and loungers are sleek looking and awesome because they can be moved onto the sun shelf of our pool!! They were great in the pool and out of it!  We can even move one of the umbrellas onto the sun shelf in the pool with us too!  This big daybed lounger is currently still on my wish list.  My husband isn’t having it but I want it soo bad! The kids table and chairs are awesome and I love putting them out here for arts and crafts and outdoor dining! The chairs have held up so well and the table looks great; but since the top is teak, I will need to refinish it pretty often probably to keep it looking good since it stays in the outdoor elements 100% of the time.  I ordered a set of the monogram Weezie towels that I absolutely love and the colors matched perfect too!

Our side porch is definitely one of my favorite spots in the entire house.  I wanted this area to be an extension of our living area.  It is a small area with a fire place and a tv that we can sit and relax and serve as an extra family room when needed.   The grill is also in this space, so when Matt is grilling, the family or company can sit out here and keep him company.

Again, this sofa and chair set is something I had picked out from the get-go and knew I wanted to use for this space.  I loved the colors in the outdoor rug and let that set the tone for the living space.  We grabbed a few pillows and the space with basically complete.  I loved these side tables and this coffee table because of their looks and weight and I loved that our chairs swivel around to visit with people or to turn and watch TV.  This little kids table and chair set gets moved around from this little area and also to our playroom but I have loved it as well! My husband thinks my little wine bar console table is completely useless, but I love the looks of it and for parties, I like to utilize it for the outdoor space   We were originally going to hang this swing on the porch here but we ended up hanging it from a tree in our back yard.  It is so beautiful and whimsical.  So far it is holding up okay in the elements, but I am worried it will need some touch-ups along the way.

I can’t believe it has been since September since I have given you guys an update on the house here.  This is pretty much a big photo dump of pictures that I will try to do some explaining.  I am hoping to be a little more organized from this point forward.   We started getting cabinets in the house last week and they are still coming in.  So I will do a more detailed post as that all comes together here in the next month.

Since my last post, we have been finishing up some of the exterior and getting the house painted.  The house is painted Simply White by Benjamin Moore.

They have been putting trim up inside, digging a pool, placing tile in the wet areas and putting the first coat of paint on the inside.  We have had an issue with our paint inside.  It is also Simply White by Benjamin Moore, but somehow we got a faulty batch.  So that will be getting fixed along the way.

This is embarrassing because this is a post that I started over a year ago when I was pregnant with Molly and nesting and now I am just now getting around to sharing it!!  I am fairly proud to say that one year later from these photos, my pantry really does still look like this and pretty darn organized.

We have a pretty large pantry and it stores a lot of stuff.  Not only do I keep the food in here, but we also have all of our appliances, entertaining pieces, soft coolers, dog water and bowl and more!  So the thing filled up quickly.

Here is a look at how I got it organized and what I used to do it.

I loved these white basket weave baskets from Target in all different sizes for the majority of the pantry.  I loved these white bin clip labels that fit great on the baskets and you can use a dry erase marker to label your baskets.

I used leveled expandable shelves for our canned goods and all of our peanut butter and jellies.

I also used large round lazy Susans in the corners to try and maximize space.  These hold our salad dressings and marinades that are easy to spot.

I used these large glass jar containers in different sizes for all of our dry baking goods.  I bought the labels for each of these containers so long ago, I can’t even remember. I think I found them on Etsy.  But I love these labels from The Home Edit collection.

For all of our cereal, I take them out of the boxes and clip them with a clothes pin and write the name of the cereal on the clothes pin.  I saw this done somewhere and thought it was genius!

I try to make all of our appliances and entertainment items as easily accessible as possible.  Otherwise, we will never use them!  We do have 12 foot ceilings in the pantry, so we have tons of height in here and keep a small step ladder in the pantry for when we need a step.

We love our wooden plates and bowls for entertaining!

So that’s a wrap! I also forgot to mention that we keep our audio equipment in here for our family room TV! So if you look in the photo below, on the left hand side, we have some stereo equipment in there too!!

Overall, I don’t find the pantry to be overly organized where it keeps me from keeping up with it.  I know that I am not the type of person that is going to empty vanilla wafers in a clear container every time I buy them or goldfish or any of that stuff.  So the basket idea helped keep things looking orderly without being organized.

Definitely the most requested post lately has been an update on our new house. I’m sorry I haven’t sat down here before now and given you guys an update. This process has seemed so lo ng (since the time we actually purchased the property) that I guess I didn’t even know where to begin! So I am just going to start from the very beginning and try to keep it as brief as possible!

So we love the house we live in now (which I also documented our build back 6 years ago here), but we always knew that we would eventually move over into a smaller town (10 minutes from where we are now) called Gulf Breeze which is where I grew up from age 4 until high school graduation. The public schools are wonderful there and we love the tight knit community. We also knew that when we got over there that we would love to be on the water if we could.

So four years ago when I was pregnant with Madelyn, we just started looking at property. We found a lot that we liked but it fell through and then we came across this house. This house came with it’s problems but we were in love with the trees, the land and the gorgeous water views. The fact that it had a house on the property ended up being a bit of a bonus because we knew we were not building immediately, so we were able to rent it out for a few years before we tore it down. We closed on this lot the day I gave birth to Madelyn ( September 2015)! I was so nervous, but so excited at the same time!

June, two years ago, we started working on house plans with our home designer. That was a 14 month process. We tore down the house last July and cleared our lot. Then we got our final house plans last August and it was time to start building. Well it was hurricane season and the construction world was busy and it was the holidays by the time we started working on bids with our builder. Needless to say, it was April 2019 before we ever broke ground. My friends, the process is long! It’s a lot of work, exhausting and stressful at times, but also really fun. I know any of you that have gone through it can relate.

So I am here today to share the process. I am flattered that so many of you are interested. I will try to do a better job giving periodic updates. Hopefully we will be getting to some of the pretty stuff soon :). And I will also try to share some inspiration posts with guys because I know that is what ya’ll love to see anyway.

The lot is cleared and it was time for us to start building! (April 2019)

Our builder, Old South Construction, does an awesome job taking these drone views when the footers are poured. I love seeing the outline of our entire house.

Here is Matt with our builders, Stephen and Klein Miller (a Father-Son team), on the day we poured the slab.

Our framers were absolutely amazing. This is the day the first wall when up. These guys framed our entire house in like less than 6 weeks. It was incredible.

The windows below that our builder is sticking his head out of will be Brody’s bedroom.

In July, we had electricians, plumbers and the AC team all coming through the house to do their work “behind the walls.” We spent three hours one day walking the house with the electrician talking about where every light fixture and can would go and every light switch! You would never guess how much thought goes into that.

And these photos below are the most recent. They have been working on putting up the board and batten and soffits so that we can get the roof finished and dried in.

Every year since Brody was born, I have had fun decorating the kids room for Christmas.  It is always the first room in our house that gets to be decorated too because it is upstairs and I’m happy to decorate it before Thanksgiving.  The rest of the house doesn’t get decorated until after Thanksgiving.  Brody and Madelyn get really excited to decorate their room too.  They drag everyone that walks into our front door up to their room to show it off which is so cute!

I will try and link the Christmas decor below.  It has slowly been collected over the last five years.  The Christmas bedding is all from Potterybarn Kids and most of all the Christmas decor is from Target.  I have been seeing the cutest Christmas flannel sheets at Target lately if you want a little holiday cheer.  I’m obsessed with my kids flannel sheets during the winter time.  I’m always wanting to climb into their cozy bed.

If you are new around here, about five months ago, we moved Madelyn into Brody’s room so that we could have the nursery for baby Molly.  It has been a lot of fun having the two of them share a room.   We have basically kept everything the same since they will only be sharing a room together for a little over a year.  You can find more bedroom sources and more on Brody’s room in this post.

I have lots of cute prints from Garvin and Co that I have printed and framed over the years.  She gave out lots of free ones over the years and I even had one printed on the canvas that you can see on the dresser in between the twin beds.  Its a chalk board background and so cute!

I am super excited to share Molly’s nursery with you girls today.  I honestly had planned not to make any changes with the nursery since it was Madelyn’s before, but I ended up changing a few things and I’m so happy with the way it turned out!!

We had added a twin bed to the room for Madelyn as she grew out of her crib.  But we always knew when the baby came that we wanted to move Madelyn into Brody’s room and her room would become the nursery.

We changed out the rug in her room and I have really loved this new rug.  It is a great price and soft enough for baby to lay and play on as she gets older.  I was warned that it sheds a lot in the beginning which it does, but it gets a lot better after a few weeks.

This crib has made it through all of our babies and I still love it 5+ years later.  Its pretty, well-priced and classic and I think it will always be in style.  We purchased the matching twin bed and I have loved having this bed in the nursery.  It was not something we had with our other babies and it makes it so convenient to nurse on and snuggle with baby.  I also slept in that bed for the first few nights after we brought Molly home.  It worked out great.

Last thing I’ll mention is the Keekaroo Changing Pad I bought for this baby.  Since we already had the dresser in here and it’s pretty high, I wanted a rubber style changing pad that would stay secure on the top of the dresser.  We have loved this one so far.  It’s easy to wipe clean and a great size.  I’m very happy with it!

This room has evolved so many times since we have moved into this house almost 5 years ago.  It started off as an office for Matt and I and then slowly transitioned into a playroom.  The truth is that it really needs to be completely turned into a playroom instead of a playroom/office, but I still can’t part with my little sliver of space that is just a desk where I can pay bills and stack a bunch of mail.

On one hand, this room is everything because it is right off our main living area and kitchen and I can send the kids in here to play or let them watch TV while I can get a few things done around the house; but on the other hand, this room drives me nuts because it is right off of our foyer/front door and is basically this first train wreck room you see when you walk in our house!

It is definitely a room that is tough to keep cleaned or tidied up all the time; but it is pretty much all we have, so we try to make the best of it.  While I was pregnant with our 3rd baby this summer, I decided I was going to take the organizing in here a step further.  I wanted to label all of our toy baskets with pictures so there was no excuse to put the toys back where they belong.  WRONG. Guess who is the only person that puts the toys where they belong??? ME.   I’m still praying that down the road this system will pay off and they will understand better; but for now, the toys are all a mess among all the bins.

The one system that is paying off??  The clear bin system in the closet.  It can be a little bit of a hassle to get the toys out that they want to play with, but these bins have stayed organized.  It’s almost good that they take a little more work to play with because that keeps them from just dumping them on the floor and leaving them.  I have been happy with the way the closet turned out.  We keep things like board games, puzzles, learning tools, office supplies, gift wrapping supplies and party supplies all stocked in this closet.  I feel like we are making the best of the space that we can for now and it feels so good when it is all clean and organized!!

These are the labels we used for our toy bins.  I made them in PicMonkey.com and you can use them and add your own to them.  I just printed them on card stock and then laminated and cut them.  Then I used velcro stickers to attach them to each toy bin.  Leave a comment if you have any questions about them.
