Five on Friday

Happy Friday friends!! I can’t believe we are off to a holiday next week with lots of kids out of school and lots of you traveling short and long distances!  I wish you all a wonderful time with your family and friends and the safest of travels.  I’m sharing my Five on Friday today and next week will be some gift guides for those of you that are knocking out some holiday shopping on black Friday and cyber Monday.

Yesterday we celebrated “Thanksgiving” with my family because we will all be different places next week.  It was fun to get together and we had a beautiful evening and gorgeous sunset.  I brought my camera to try to get some pictures of the grandkids, so I’m hoping I got a decent shot 🙂  It’s hard work!

My Mom picked up the cutest mini Romaine lettuce called Gems.  She set out a little Wedge bar with bacon, avocados, dressing, tomatoes, and blue cheese and we made our own salads.  I loved the idea of these minis so much.  I’m hoping we can find them locally soon.

About two weeks ago now, my laptop died on me.  It was a MacBook pro that I have had for about seven years, but I was devastated to see it go.  Thankfully, I took it to Bestbuy and they were able to save all of it’s brains; but we had to send the computer to heaven.  I started looking at new ones and I now I’m waiting for this gorgeous new MacBook Pro with the Touchbar feature to arrive at my doorstep.   I’m pretty sure I’m going to love it and excited that the timing worked out almost perfectly for me.  I’ll let you girls know how I like the touch bar feature.  It’s supposed to be really fun for editing videos which I’m hoping to get better at!

Last night, Matt put Brody to bed and forgot to change him out of his underwear and into a pull-up to sleep.  Of course at 3am he came into our room soaked with pee all over his bed.  He has done awesome with potty training, but still wears a pull-up for naps and bedtime.  What is your best advice for getting them out of diapers during sleep??

Lastly, I’d like to announce the giveaway winner for the $300 Amazon gift card in celebration for my Four year Blogiversary.  You guys were all amazing and we had over 3,000 entries.  I can’t thank you enough along with my fellow bloggers that helped celebrate with me.  You are the reason we love blogging and all of your comments and encouraging words help me each and every day.  Thank you again and congratulations to Diana!!

I think some kids, boys especially, are just not ready to stay dry all night. I am a nanny for a 6.5 year old boy and he just would not wake up to use the bathroom/stay dry until he was around 6. He is a very sound sleeper! My 4.5 year old nephew, on the other hand, wakes up and uses the toilet by himself at night. He has never been a sound sleeper though-he tosses and turns a lot.
One thing to try is limiting liquids after dinner ( we limit after 6 PM because dinner is at 530 and bedtime is between 7-730). This meant taking away the cup of water by his bed too for awhile. I’ve also had luck with taking a child to the bathroom (asleep) before adult bedtime (so around 1030/11 PM) and they go right back to sleep. I would keep him in pull ups and try to limit liquids after dinner and see if he can stay dry. If he can’t then he may need pull ups for awhile longer.
I would check with your pediatrician but most of the ones I have talked to say not staying dry all night is pretty normal for some boys until age 6/7.
I thought this post also had some good tips and advice:

  7. I have 4 kids and they were all a little different maturity wise with sleeping through the night without wetting the bed. All successfully stopped before they were 4 for the most part. I, however, was a super sound sleeper and I seriously was still having accidents when I was in elementary school. My mom consulted doctors and all kinds of things but nothing worked. Thankfully I outgrew it before getting married! 🙂

haha thank you!! Four seems like a reasonable age. I need to be better about forcing him to the bathroom right before and after he wakes up and then cutting down on some liquids at night. I started getting a little lazy!
