Our Outdoor Space | Malone Maison

Summer is quickly approaching and I know lots of you are looking for a good outdoor makeover or refresh! I have found that a lot of things are back ordered these days, so if you are hoping to have things by Summertime, I would say you definitely need to start now.

And today starts the Frontgate Outdoor Furniture Sale! Up to 20% off outdoor furniture with no code necessary!

I have been dreaming about our outdoor space in this house for two years now and am so happy to see it all come together these last few months.  There are certainly still things we are missing and I am sure it will constantly evolve, but that is the fun in it.  Let me preface this by saying, outdoor furniture is sooo  expensive!!  I am going to share the items we have used so far, but please know, there are other great places to find outdoor furniture.  Target has been killing it lately, same with Walmart and places like Wayfair are also great!!  We live by the salt water, so I went with good quality products that I hope will last us a long time.  The salt air/water can just eat up outdoor stuff so badly.  So we have only been in our house since November, so I can only speak for our furniture for the last 6 months or so in this house.

We built this home with our outdoor space being a huge priority.  We always pictured wrap around porches all along the back and a nice covered porch in the front.  We have lived in our outdoor space and try to eat the majority of our dinners somewhere outside if at all possible!!

So here is a look at our spaces so far! I hope this is helpful!

As I have shared with you guys before, during our building process, I would make these design vision boards using Canva, to get a look at my ideas all in one place. I find this so helpful if you are looking to design certain areas of  your house!

Sofa and Chairs are by Kingsley Bate. It is the Sag Harbor Collection and our color is Oyster.

This table was one of the the very first pieces of furniture that I knew I had to have for our outdoor space. I have just always loved it! It is extremely heavy which is very important for our outdoor space as we get high winds sometimes.  As much as I had fallen in love with some chairs from Serena & Lily to go with the table, I knew I needed chairs that were sturdy, easy to wipe down and heavy.  So we found these and have been extremely happy!!  I have linked our swivel chairs and sofa above.  I found these at a local furniture store and knew I wanted them.  The chairs are extremely comfortable and I love that they swivel and rock.  The sofa is great too, a little more stiff and not quite as comfy; but I’m still glad we purchased it.  This coffee table is great because again, it is very heavy!  Then our newest purchase is this little round table to go in the middle of the 4 swivel chairs and I am pretty obsessed.  It’s the perfect size and the top pops up and it is an ice cooler underneath!! Is that cool or what???

So for our poolside space, I used the same line for our lounge chairs that I did for our outdoor dining room chairs.  I love them and am honestly happier than I even thought I would be with the comfort of them. I worried they didn’t look too comfortable, but they really are cozy.  I didn’t want to have to mess with cushions that I had to bring inside all the time and I needed something heavy still!  So these have been great.  I love these umbrellas so much with the pretty fringe and the shade of blue is just my favorite! The umbrella tables are so nice and heavy duty too!  These white chairs and loungers are sleek looking and awesome because they can be moved onto the sun shelf of our pool!! They were great in the pool and out of it!  We can even move one of the umbrellas onto the sun shelf in the pool with us too!  This big daybed lounger is currently still on my wish list.  My husband isn’t having it but I want it soo bad! The kids table and chairs are awesome and I love putting them out here for arts and crafts and outdoor dining! The chairs have held up so well and the table looks great; but since the top is teak, I will need to refinish it pretty often probably to keep it looking good since it stays in the outdoor elements 100% of the time.  I ordered a set of the monogram Weezie towels that I absolutely love and the colors matched perfect too!

Our side porch is definitely one of my favorite spots in the entire house.  I wanted this area to be an extension of our living area.  It is a small area with a fire place and a tv that we can sit and relax and serve as an extra family room when needed.   The grill is also in this space, so when Matt is grilling, the family or company can sit out here and keep him company.

Again, this sofa and chair set is something I had picked out from the get-go and knew I wanted to use for this space.  I loved the colors in the outdoor rug and let that set the tone for the living space.  We grabbed a few pillows and the space with basically complete.  I loved these side tables and this coffee table because of their looks and weight and I loved that our chairs swivel around to visit with people or to turn and watch TV.  This little kids table and chair set gets moved around from this little area and also to our playroom but I have loved it as well! My husband thinks my little wine bar console table is completely useless, but I love the looks of it and for parties, I like to utilize it for the outdoor space 🙂  We were originally going to hang this swing on the porch here but we ended up hanging it from a tree in our back yard.  It is so beautiful and whimsical.  So far it is holding up okay in the elements, but I am worried it will need some touch-ups along the way.

    Oh Annie!
I so love your blog and your children are adorable. So many of those pieces are out of my price range, and I feel like listing the Walmart and Target options are just highlighting the have and the have nots. I, too, live in Florida with 3 kids…3 boys, but twins due 6.25.21…All boys! 5.5, 45, 3, and then our surprises coming in the next month. You and Matt clearly lead a VERY affluent lifestyle that, for me and my family, is unattainable. I have loved reading your blog, but seeing your pics just makes me envious what I am missing. Yes, Target has been “killing it?, but then why are you not buying from there? Do you EVERY shop at Walmart when it is not sponsored? Because Frongate is better and is your standard. I have lived vicariously through your private airplanes and sunset views, but this post me realize that I am not in your league, which is fine. I wish you continued happiness. My feedback for your blog is to watch the humble brag. Everybody saw the monogrammed M on the chairs, The disclaimer is not working for me anymore, and going down your rabbit hole is just a place where I need to get out of. Please note that your wealth is admirable, but the majority of your readers are not there. $4000 on an outdoor table is not investing in dealing with elements, it is highlighting what you can afford. Sigh…I so want to have your life, and your blog makes feel sad because I don’t. You do you…but some of us need to got to Target and Walmart just to get by. I hope you address this in a post because so many of us want transparency.

You go, Carolyn! Very well said! The money spent on the outdoor space is so unattainable! Annie and her family are Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Annie, your disclaimer for Florida living does not hold up…My family and I live here as well (Destin) and get by with Walmart (gasp!) furniture. Seriously out of my league and a sad read for us that cannot afford sunsets and side porches. I want to be Annie, but I don’t think I would publish the dollars being spent. Ugh….I am sorry but I am glad someone highlighted this. Blogs are supposed to be relatable, and Malone Maison is where the elite meet. I wish I could be at your table, but that is not in the cards. How about some honest feedback for us trying to get by? I remember you addressing the pandemic so how responding to readers that shop at the “killing it” Target and Walmart? Is it even in your Maison?

Point taken from both you and Carolyn. I appreciate your feedback and most definitely get where you are coming from. I apologize for being unrelatable and sharing this post. That is, of course, never my intention.

Thank you, Annie for responding to this. In all honesty, if it is not your intention, then what is? Families in the panhandle? If so, how about showing us what is in our price range? Your home is SO GORGEUOUS!!!!! You certainly some to have it all, but I think a lot of us don’t. Blogs curate a perfect and wealthy lifestyle, and recently, it has been become obvious who needs help and support. I just don’t think promoting Frongate and the lavish expenses were appropriate for the time we are living in right now. Your affluence is so admirable (and enviable),but I think you need to be more relatable, if possible.

Thank you Samantha. Buying everything on the list is not the point. If one person finds something they like or needed, then I hope I could help one person. I don’t believe that I am the first person to ever shop at Frontgate or Serena and Lily. And I certainly don’t think I put off the message that the only places I shop are Target and Walmart. Which I happen to absolutely love both of those places for a lot of things, but not everything. So again, I apologize for being unrelatable. I assume you normally follow along because I tend to be relatable and hopefully there is something you take away or some enjoyment you get from Home of Malones.

You go, Annie! That being said, other than groceries, what do purchase and LOVE from Walmart???? Sources say it was for clicks and really not in your wheelhouse…Shopping in Fairhope and private planes to the Bahamas don’t jive with Walmart on Creighton Road. Just own it…it’s not just helping one person. It’s showing showing your privilege.

Thank you, I think? Not sure if you were being complimentary or not. But can I ask you something, what do you follow me for? Is it because I share stuff that you like? I am not sure what you mean by “sources”? I live in Gulf Breeze and the only shopping that we have is at Walmart! So, if you know Creighton Rd, then I will assume you know Gulf Breeze. Many and many of toys for my kids have been purchased at walmart, baby furniture, school supplies, kitchen appliances and accessories, and clothes. Who can’t find stuff they love and want from Walmart? It’s like saying you don’t buy from Amazon. I don’t think that is what this is about.

wow, its been a long time since I have gotten people so riled up on the blog. I didnt even know people commented on my blog anymore and I certainly didn’t know I would come off so offensive today. That is never my intention, but I appreciate all of you grounding me and putting me in my place. Sharing our home is probably the number one request I get from instagram followers and its definitely not the easiest thing to do and I shouldn’t assume that everyone wants to hear about it or see it. But either way, thanks for stopping by and I guess I may not be the right blog for you.

Wow! I’m amazed at how many people can’t find joy in their own lives and try to live through others. I can’t afford $200 kid’s chairs or a $4000 table. But, that doesn’t give me the right to beat down another who can. If you don’t like the blog, then reflect on the joy it once gave you – then, let it go. Appreciate it for what it is and not what you want it to be. As I tell my children, there will always be people who have more, but there will always be people who have LESS, too. Find joy in your own accomplishments. Someone is probably envious of what you have as well.

Kudos to you Annie for taking the high road, but also standing up for yourself.

    Hi Annie,

I am not sure if I have ever left a comment on your blog, but seeing these comments made me feel compelled to leave one. I live in Northern Canada and our climates could not be more different. I love watching and reading about warmer places..ha. Enjoying design and home decor costs nothing! Have we forgotten how to enjoy beautiful items, even if we are just window shopping? Society today is becoming “unrealistic” not in whether or not you are a have or a have not, but people expecting others to change to fit what they “perceive” is right/wrong. It is everywhere from politics, to health choices etc. no wonder there is so much division. IF you don’t like something you are free to move along, not buy it etc. Let’s knock other people down because they can afford to purchase something that you may not be able to. If you enjoy design perhaps you can use it as inspiration and find similar items that are more inline with your budget. This calling out in the blog comments reminds me of “mean girls” in a high school setting. You always have the option to walk away without announcing your departure!
