Our Weekend in Rosemary Beach | October 2023

We took the kids this weekend to Rosemary beach for a long weekend.  We stayed Friday to Monday morning and had the most beautiful weather.  I truly did not want to leave.  October is definitely one of the best months to visit the beach.  The weather is often still plenty warm to enjoy the beach (although the water was getting a little chilly, but we still swam in it) and the crowds have all left.  There was just the tiniest bit of chill in the air to make the temperature just perfect the whole time we were there.

We rented a carriage house for our 3 night stay and as I mentioned on instagram, this was not our favorite rental.  We have rented many different houses on our trips to Rosemary and this one was that felt quite run-down and the staircase in the home was really dangerous for young kids.  We made it work, but at the end of the day; we have probably outgrown most of the carriage house set-ups.  Carriage houses are usually one bedrooms with a loft or small 2nd bedroom and they are usually less than 1,000 sq feet.  I used to love these little houses for our family because it felt cute and cozy to stuff us all into the small space.  You spend such little time in the house, it never really mattered.  But this trip, it felt like we needed more space. We had one bathroom for all 5 of us and the bedrooms were so tight, you could barely walk around in them. We’ve honestly had tons of carriage houses that we’ve completed loved; so I hate to deter you from them.  They are such a great option for a rental that is bigger than a hotel room, but not as expensive as renting an entire house.

Molly did have a cute little extra attic space that we were able to blow up her cute sleepover mattress, so she could sleep right next to the big kids.  These beds are awesome.  We use them for sleepovers at the house, movie nights and they are great for travel.

We scheduled our family photos for our Christmas cards for Saturday so I could knock those out.  I have always loved taking our family photos when we have a trip down to Rosemary.  Desiree Gardner has taken ours for several years that we have gone down there.  She does a beautiful job and I love looking back through past years.

We have spent our days having slow mornings and grabbing breakfast in Rosemary.  Our carriage house was an easy walk to everything.  We ate breakfast at Summer Kitchen which is always one of my favorites.  You have to try one of their breakfast wraps! And of course the kids had to have Charlie’s donuts one morning.

After breakfast, we would walk around the shops in town or take a stroll through the Sunday Farmer’s Market.  They have the best new bookstore now by Amavida Coffee.  I could have spent hours browsing through there. Brody found some kids gathered to play a game of pick-up football which was really cute.  He walked right up and asked if he could play.  I was so proud of him not acting shy one bit!

The lobster quesadillas from George’s is a must!

Then we would go park at the beach for a few hours.  I could have stayed out there forever.  It wasn’t too hot or too cold and it wasn’t too crowded at all.  The kids played with sand toys or made up their own game of “capture the shoe.”

On our last night, Matt and I got a babysitter so we could run to dinner.  We had drinks upstairs at the bar of Pescado and caught the sunset and then had dinner at Gallions.  It was so nice to have a few hours kid-free.  The babysitter was so sweet and brought the kids to dinner at Summer Kitchen and then had some dessert at the Sugar Shack.

It is always a sad morning to have to pack up and leave! I could have stayed down there for a week!
