A Day with Mahjong Molly and The Mahjong Line

Last week I had the opportunity to attend a Masters Mahjong teaching class with Mahjong Molly and The Mahjong Line.  I couldn’t believe we were so lucky to have them make Pensacola, Florida their first stop!  For those of you that don’t know, Molly is a very experienced Mahjong teacher in Dallas, TX and The Mahjong Line created the most gorgeous line of Mahjong Tiles and accessories that you won’t be able to resist!

They just launched this brand new training program to travel around the country and host a one day session to teach others how to be a Mahjong teacher in their area.  The class is so well thought out and kept to a perfect size of about 7 or 8 students which kept that intimate feel.

They hosted our session at the beautiful Oyster Bay Boutique Hotel and it was lovely.  We couldn’t have asked for a more gorgeous Spring day and enjoyed our breaks and lunch time al fresco!  They set us up an amazing lunch on the porch catered by Classic City Catering and it was a wonderful time to just sit and chat and get to know everyone that was in our class.

Our class was a mix of ladies that were local to Pensacola and also several that flew in from other cities.  The ladies that flew in stayed at the Oyster Bay hotel and made a fun vacation around the training class.

Molly x The Mahjong Line greeted us with the most thoughtful little Mahjong gifts from the second we arrived.  We took a moment to open our goodies and “ew and ah” over our new accessories.

Molly gave us a notepad to take notes during class and a Mahjong Molly branded pen, her Mahjong guide book that is great for beginners, Mahji Mama cocktail napkins and a Mark Your Mahjong line reader.  These are so cute and also great for beginners.  We also got a fun bag from The Mahjong Line that had a beautiful leather pouch with colorful dice, linen cocktail napkins and some fun new shufflers.  After we opened, it was time to get down to business.  She had a full agenda for us to break down the day and after a little chatting, it was time to walk through a beginner Mahjong lesson.

We partnered up and all sat at one Mahjong table and went through the lesson.

We had opportunities to stop and ask questions as needed, take notes and really dive into the important points to help beginners grasp this game from the beginning!

We spent time dissecting the brand new 2024 Mahjong card, asking business strategy, and discussing what it is like to get started.  Some of the group had already started their business as a Mahjong teacher and others were there just learning in hopes to get started soon. It was a great variety.

I know this whole group had a great time and the love for the game was completely contagious.  It was so inspiring hearing everyone talk about their experiences and all the different places this game can take you.  Molly discussed hosting tournaments and traveling to different cities to teach groups and that was all so fun and exciting to me.

My end goal may not be the idea of teaching multiple nights a week and being away from my family, but I can see myself picking and choosing to do certain events and parties and I love that I have the knowledge and confidence of learning from Molly on this training day.

Molly was the most energetic, kind and precious teacher! If you do not already follow her on instagram, you are absolutely missing out.  I started following her when I first learned Mahjong because I loved the way she used instagram to teach quick little lessons for her entire community to learn.  I used her highlight bubbles on instagram to teach my children the game (and other simpler variations), how to play 3 person Mahjong and also two person Mahjong.  She is a wealth of knowledge and a must-follow if you are learning the game.  If you want to try to learn online from home, she also has an online course you can purchase and watch.  Also be sure to follow The Mahjong Line and get to know all their fun sets.  Your hardest decision will be trying to decide on which one is your favorite!

I hope to see some of you out there learning this addictive game!  If you have questions, feel free to reach out.  If you have the opportunity to take Molly’s class, I can’t recommend it enough.   If you have been thinking about wanting to learn the game, GO FOR IT!  Grab your Mom, your friends, your husband, whoever you can get and go find a lesson or a teacher.  Mother’s Day is this week, put a beautiful set from the Mahjong Line on your wishlist!!  You will not be disappointed.

Hopefully this week or next week, I will finally finish up writing my post on how to throw a Mahjong party.  I threw a Mahjong party for my birthday back in February and it was an absolute blast!  I don’t know why it has taken me so long to write, but I promise to finish it.  So stay tuned for that.
